Chinese smartphone maker Vivo launched the first generation Vivo NEX last year. The smartphone was the first to adopt a pop-up mechanism to house the selfie camera; in a bid to increase the screen to body ratio of the device. Earlier this month, Chinese smartphone maker, Vivo applied for a trademark with the title name ‘VivoX’. It was assumed that the company might launch a flagship device which will carry the moniker. However, a new report suggests that this is not the case. 

Instead, the company wants to make a larger change with the newly filed trademark. Vivox will not be the name of a new smartphone, rather, it will be the new company name.

Vivo has filed eight trademark applications with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) which include Vivox APEX, Vivox NEX, Vivox S, Vivox U, Vivox V, Vivox Y, Vivox Z and Vivox IQOO.

With the constantly increasing battery sizes in smartphones, the subsequent demand for a quick charging technology has increased. One such company is Chinese handset maker Vivo, which has announced with a post on Chinese social networking website Weibo; that it has successfully developed the world’s fastest 120W charging technology for smartphones.

Vivo Y12 is the latest budget smartphone offering from the Chinese smartphone manufacturer. The handset features triple rear cameras and an 8MP front camera. Under the hood, it runs on the Helio P22 chipset which consists of an ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. Every once in a while a radical design for a smartphone tries to break the norm. In doing so it forces the entire industry to follow in its footsteps. In the past few years, we have seen many smartphones attempt this. Curved screen devices, bendable phones, shatterproof phones, modular phones and now even foldable phones.

However, the last real change in the industry was back in the year 2007 when the first iPhone changed the perception of the industry and made the capacitive touchscreen a norm. After introducing the V15 Pro, Vivo has registered trademark applications which indicate that the company is prepping for the launch of new smartphone models. A total of 14 applications were submitted to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) under the description ‘smartphones; mobile phones’. The placement of the front-facing camera gives the device an edge-to-edge screen with a high screen to body ratio.
