Motorola has finally entered the flagship smartphone race with the Motorola Edge+ and has also launched a sub-flagship Moto Edge. 

Motorola has often stayed away from the flagship market, especially in the last few years. This changes with the Edge devices as Motorola steps up its game.

The Motorola Edge+ features a 6.67 inch AMOLED display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The display also has a 90Hz refresh rate which features a auto switch to lower refresh rates on low batteries.

Korean electronics giant Samsung unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold back in the month of February. While the device was claimed to be ready for prime time, just before its launch, problems with its durability started surfacing online. Due to this, the company had to recall the review units of the handsets and postponed the Galaxy Fold’s launch date to several months. While the world is still waiting to see the smartphone in action, latest patent filings by Samsung reveal it is ready with another foldable handset, the latest of which folds both ways.

Earlier this year, a senior Xiaomi executive showcased a foldable smartphone that could transform into a large-screen tablet. Following the event, Samsung and Huawei launched their first foldable smartphones which are dubbed the Galaxy Fold and Mate X respectively. Unfortunately, due to quality issues, the launch of both these handsets have been pushed back to September.

At the Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) in China on the 9th of August, Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei has unveiled the long-rumoured HongMengOS. Called the HarmonyOS for the global market, the new operating system has been positioned as a replacement to Android. While HarmonyOS has been primarily designed for IoT (Internet of Things) products like smart speakers, displays and wearables; the company claims that if it is no longer allowed to use Android in the future, the new operating system can be used for Huawei smartphones.

Despite having high-end features, the company has managed to put an aggressive price tag on the device. American social media giant Facebook has announced a digital currency called Libra on the 18th of June. It is a cryptocurrency that aims at allowing billions of Facebook users to make transactions globally. Libra is expected to debut in the year 2020 alongside a blockchain network supporting it. Chinese technology company Royole is best known for making the world’s first foldable smartphone, the Royole FlexPai. Fresh patents from the company have surfaced online which reveal it is working on two new design for foldable wearable devices. Both the wearables feature a large screen that can be folded to be comfortably worn on the wrist.

The patent for a folding wearable was filed by the Royole Corporation in the second half of the year 2017.
