In an event held in New Delhi, Redmi has launched two budget oriented smartphones which include the Redmi Y3 and the Redmi 7. The former is the successor to the Redmi Y2 while the latter is the successor to the Redmi 6. Like its predecessors, the Redmi Y3 has a focus on photography, however, the newly launched device has an all new design. As previously mentioned, the Redmi Y3 has an all new design with a large screen display on the front and an attractive Aura Prism panel on the rear. The smartphone measures 158.5 x 76.43 x 8.47 mm and it tips the scale at 180 grams. It features a 2.5d 6.26 inch display that has a resolution of 1520 x 720 px. The display panel has a 19:9 aspect ratio and is covered with Corning Gorilla 5 to safeguard it against scratches and accidental drops.
Like the Note 7 and Note 7 Pro, the Redmi Y3 also has a dot notch on the top of the display which houses the smartphone’s key highlighting feature, the 32 MP selfie camera. In a segment first, the device also supports EIS (Electronic Image Stabilisation) which helps in capturing better handheld shots. The front camera also supports Auto HDR and AI portrait mode which can artificially beautify selfies. Another new feature that the Y3 introduces is a ‘Palm shutter’ which as the name suggests can be used as a trigger to control the camera shutter.

The rear of the Redmi Y3 has an elegant multicoloured panel which houses the company branding, fingerprint sensor the dual rear-facing cameras. Like the Redmi Note 7, its rear camera setup is comprised of the 12 MP sensor, 2 MP sensor and a dual LED flash which can also capture 1080p videos at 60 fps.
Under the hood, the Redmi Y3 packs the Snapdragon 632 SoC which consists of the Adreno 506 GPU and Kryo 250 Octa Core CPU. The smartphone is powered by a large 4,000 mAh battery and runs on MIUI 10 which is based on Android 9 Pie. Notably, it also has the hydrophobic P2i nano coating which will allow the device to survive accidental liquid spillage or unexpected drizzles.
Connectivity options on the Redmi Y3 include Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, 3.5 mm audio jack and bottom mounted Micro USB port. Like the Redmi Note 6 Pro, the Micro USB port on the device is anti rust treated which prevents it against corrosion mostly faced by consumers residing in coastal areas. It also has an IR blaster on top which can be used to wirelessly control appliances.

The Redmi Y3 is available in three colour options which include Prime Black, Bold Red and Elegant Blue. It is offered in two storage variants for which the price is as follows:
