Data from 6,313 mobile plans in 230 countries were gathered and analysed by Cable.co.uk between 23 October and 28 November 2018. A senior executive at Cable explained how the countries make mobile data this affordable. He says “Many of the cheapest countries in which to buy mobile data fall roughly into one of two categories. Some have excellent mobile and fixed broadband infrastructure and so providers are able to offer large amounts of data, which brings down the price per gigabyte.” He also claimed that other countries with lesser advanced broadband networks were heavily reliant on the usage of internet through their mobile phones. This would make the rates of the said data low, in order to make them affordable.

Therefore, the operations at the manufacturing facility can be restarted. India Is Not Pre-Ordering the Pixel Like Expected

The Google Pixel is a successor to the successful Nexus line of phones which started to dwindle in popularity towards the end of their cycle. Google’s new Pixel and Pixel XL are what iPhone and iPhone Plus are to Apple, proprietary phones, designed to work perfectly well with their software. The Google Pixel and Pixel XL also break the traditional price barrier for Nexus devices pricing them upwards of US$ 649 and in India starting at a Rs. 57000 slightly short of the iPhone 7 price tag. pixel-colors However, the Google Pixel has failed to excite the Indian consumers like the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus did, according to our source at Flipkart. The company has received little pre-orders and are falling short of expectations the sales teams had. Google has also started pushing advertisements  in India for the Pixel in order to excite potential customers. However general expectations of price have been off from he users and the pricing seems high despite the specifications on the Pixel handsets. The most expensive Pixel Xl with 128 GB storage is expected to sell the least and is priced at Rs. 76000.

Presently the Very Silver and Quite Black colours of the phone are on sale and the Really Blue colour is not expected in India. Are you waiting to buy the Pixel or the Pixel XL or would you rather buy something else?

  • The Government Will Soon Ask WhatsApp and Gmail To Store and Share Data

The Government Will Soon Ask WhatsApp and Gmail To Store and Share Data

In a move that goes against all norms of public privacy and modern moral sense, the Government of India is making plans to ask intermediary services like Gmail, WhatsApp, Snapchat and even Flipkart and Amazon to not only retain sensitive and private user information but also to share with the Government as per requests raised.

This amendment will be made into the Section 67C of the Information Technology Act of India by a committee  that has been working on this for a while.  According to this new rule, put initially into motion in 2008, all electronic companies operating in India will require to follow the govt. rules which will spell out what type of data has to be stored, in which format, and for how long. Meaning it should be stored in a specific archaic format set by the Government in 2008.

Not only will this be an invasion of privacy, but should this data leak or get hacked, it will be a huge social, private, public and central Government security risk, also a major risk to high profile individuals and companies who use these services daily.

Using Apple’s example, the committee stated on the matter:

Even if it is for national security reasons, how much are these companies answerable to the Indian security establishment? And we do know how Apple refused to unlock the phone even for FBI.

The implementation of such services may not technically be possible in certain cases, where WhatsApp encrypts chats with 256 bit hex while Snapchat never stores informations beyond seconds. This may either lead to huge resistance of the bill or general shutdown of services used by modern India.

While the Government is still mixed on how and why the data needs to be stored, the problem for how long is what may take more of a biting, the Department of Telecommunications required data to be stored for 6 months, the Registrar of Companies mandates for one year and income-tax for seven years.

Security is important, however, privacy and freedom of citizens is important too Click to Share

Either way, we all should be aware of the consequences of government data storage, a bill that is nearly a decade old, and policies that could send the growth trajectory of Modern India spiralling down. While national security is important, privacy and freedom of citizens is important too. At the end how much policing, is too much ?

Government Blocks Google Street View in India

The Indian Government has halted plans from Google to put Indian cities, tourists spots, hills, and rivers in an application in which one can explore through 360-degree, panoramic and street-level images.

According to the security agencies and home ministry, these pictures can be used for planning of terrorist attacks that might ultimately lead to events like those in 2008 that took place in Mumbai.

Street view, which was earlier just launched as a test in the US is now showcasing 360-degree panoramic views to include locations on all seven continents, covering 65 plus countries and has travelled seven million plus miles.

Google has often run into trouble with their Maps platform, in countries that take privacy, including many in the EU. In Germany, homeowners can log into street view and blur their homes.

Google with the Archaeological Survey of India has already added their street view to the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Varanasi river bank, Nalanda University, Mysore Palace, Thanjavur Temple, Chinnaswamy Stadium besides others in partnership with the Archaeological Society of India.

But now, the Government of India has blocked Google from going ahead with Street View due to fear of potential terrorist attacks. However, if the fear of terrorism holds back progress, then terrorism at a certain level has already been achieved.

  • Apple will launch the iPhone 7 in India at the Same Time as the US

Apple will launch the iPhone 7 in India at the Same Time as the US

Tim Cook’s recent India visit may have paid off more than people were expecting. Apple will launch the next iPhone 7 in India at the same time as most major markets like the US and the UK, according to our source, who is in proximity to the launch planning.

In India, Apple loses major of its initial sales push to the Grey market imports, or to people purchasing the iPhone overseas. Apple wants to cut this down by launching at the same time as the major markets.

India is one of the strongest growing smartphone markets in the world and Apple sees the large potential in the market.

iphone 7 backOur source (who explicitly wished to remain anonymous due to his dealings with Apple) also mentioned that Apple is working hard on bringing not only the official Apple Stores experience to the main cities, but also to the online Apple Store which does not exist in India.

The company (Apple) is not only in the process of setting up Apple Retail stores that everyone is talking about, but also the official online Apple Store, which will allow people to customise their purchases.

While this information is not far from what Apple has officially announced, and the company is in talks with the Indian government to allow licensing for the retail stores. We still have to see if Apple will bring the full Apple experience to India. Something which many users complain has been lacking, especially the Apple Care experience which is possibly the best anywhere an official Apple store exists.

If Apple does launch the “full experience” online Apple Store, people may finally be able to customise their MacBooks and iMac as per required specs, have them shipped directly to their houses and also finally be able to get “I’m Batman” laser engraved on their iPad or iPhone.

In a recent report for India Smartphone market, Apple and Lenovo have come out on top in the list of fastest gaining Smartphone vendors. While the positions at the top have not changed much, with the top being Samsung followed by Micromax, Intex, Lenovo, and Lava.

    Lenovo Vibe X3 0

Lenovo’s shipments increased 63 percent year-on-year while Apple experienced a shipments increase by 56 percent. The report also mentions the fact the Apple is the most aggressive in terms of growth and also has the largest growth potential.

Apple is outperforming the overall market in India, and still has great growth potentia

Apple recently took a lot of flak for a poor performance in the year on year results for Apple. While their revenue lowered to 10 billion from 13 billion, Apple still had double the sales of any other competition brand. Apple is agressively changing its strategies in India to ensure great results and it appears to be showing. Apple Also recently launched the iPhone SE which despite a huge price difference from global markets is doing well for the brand in India.

    blackberry-q10-heins

Microsoft, BlackBerry, Sony, and LG lost the maximum market share with respect to shipments. Troubled by a market that is trending towards low-cost yet high spec handsets. Micromax on the other hand experienced a slight drop in market share from the year ago quarter to 16.7 percent.

The report mentions that Micromax, in particular, has been through tough times, with key executives leaving. Now the company is aiming to revamp its strategy to incorporate an ecosystem of services around payments and content. Micromax’s market share fell by a couple of percentage points to 16.7% in Q1 2016.

  • Apple Will Not Be Allowed to Sell Refurbished iPhones in India

Apple Will Not Be Allowed to Sell Refurbished iPhones in India

Apple has been denied the request to import and sell refurbished iPhones to the world’s second largest mobile population, a telecommunications ministry official told Bloomberg on Tuesday.

With India inc. heavily pushing “Make In India”, the rejection could simply be rebellion by competition brands who do not want Apple to gain foothold by selling cheaper refurbished phones. Companies started a public campaign against the effort, arguing that such a move would trigger a flood of used electronics while defeating the government’s Make-in-India program to encourage local manufacturing.

    iPhone 6s and 6s plus igyaan 6

India is one the largest smartphone markets in the world, However, Apple has only been able to capture 2% stake in this ever growing region. This is reportedly due to the high prices and less availability of Apple products. Refurbished iPhone sales would have allowed Apple to pentrate a lower segment of the market which would have drastically improved sales and market share for Apple.

Apple is also seeking permission to open its own stores, and drive sales up for the iphone by offering specail Apple financing and deals, as they would in other markets.

Samsung’s latest S series phones come with a promise of great performance and best in market specs all draped in a beautiful metal frame covered by Gorilla Glass 4 at the front and back. Both these phones are an extension of a growing effort by Samsung to bring phones with more than just great internals to the market, as it wants the consumers to “rethink what phones can do”.

    Galaxy S7 S7 Edge - iGyaan Hands On 4

The Galaxy S7 comes equipped with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display(1440 x 2560), while the more premium S7 edge brings to the users a beautiful 5.5-inch curved Quad HD display(1440 x 2560) which effortlessly melts into the phone’s metal frame to create an elegant looking device. Galaxy S7 S7 Edge - iGyaan Hands On 15

Both the phones share the rest of the specs including the on board Exynos 8890 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB internal storage. Both the S7 and S7 Edge feature ‘Dual Pixel’ cameras with 12MP f/1.7 aperture rear camera for better low-light photography and a 5MP front which might just see Samsung dominating the camera department this year.

Both the devices also come with an Always-On display which consumes less than 1% power per hour. The phones come with IP68 rating and are dust and water-proof. The phones also come with a liquid cooling setup to keep the S7 and S7 edge cool during those long gaming sessions. The S7 series also brings with it the Vulkan API and a dedicated “Game Launcher” for an unparalleled gaming experience on a mobile device.

    Galaxy S7 S7 Edge - iGyaan Hands On 31

Moving over to the design, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge follow the same design language as their S6 counterparts. The S6 devices of last year were beautifully crafted phones and Samsung made a smart move not to change that. Only the standard 5.1-inch S7 will have a curved edge at the back rather than a flat one seen on in the S6. Samsung hasn’t changed the exteriors too much but has simply refined it. It has added a MicroSD tray, and also reduced the camera bump at the back by 1.25mm in a bid to maintain a sleek profile.
