Acer Announces ConceptD Lineup Of Desktops And Laptops For Creators

On April 11 2019, Acer unveiled its new lineup of desktops and laptops, which is directed towards content creators. Labelled as the ConceptD, the machines claim to lay their entire focus on performance, silence, design and precision. Furthermore, the ConceptD desktops and laptops are as aesthetically pleasing as the performance they claim to provide. Notably, at the same event, Acer also launched its powerful Predator Helios 700 gaming laptop with Core i9-9980HK processor.

    Acer ConceptD 9 Laptops

For portability, Acer announced the ConceptD 9 laptop. The laptop features a 17.3-inch 4K UHD screen on top of a chassis with an Ezel Aero Hinge, which enables users to draw the screen closer to themselves if they are working directly on the display. Previously, a similar hinge design was spotted in Acer’s Aspire R13. Acer claims that the ConceptD 9 is one of the quietest creator-edition laptops ever, with the fans clocking their noise at just under 40 decibels.

The display of the laptop has one of the best Delta-E colour accuracy ratings (under 1). Furthermore, the screen is Pantone Validated, which will ensure that creators will have a wide variety of hues to choose from. The ConceptD 9 laptops are customizable, with up to 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processors and NVIDIA mobile RTX 2080 graphics. The keyboard also features Amber-lit keys that the company claims are easy on the eyes.

The company also launched two slightly toned down variants of the ConceptD 9 laptop, which are the ConceptD 7 and ConceptD 5. While the ConceptD 7 features a Core i7 processor with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 graphics, the ConceptD 5 packs an 8th Gen Core i7 processor bundled with Radeon RX Vega M GL Graphics.

Acer ConceptD 900 And ConceptD 500 Desktops

For those who can compromise on portability, the company announced the ConceptD 900 Desktop build, alongside the new CP7271K Monitor. The desktop features Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors combined with the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000 GPU chip. The Intel Xeon CPU has a total of 40 cores, which, frankly, makes for a very powerful setup. The system can be upgraded with up to 192GB of ECC RAM and 60 Terabytes of storage. Moreover, the prebuilt machine has a minimalistic and elegant design, which contributes a lot to aesthetics.

For those who want to settle for lower specifications, Acer also announced the ConceptD 500 desktop. It packs a 9th Generation Intel Core i9 CPU, with Ray-Tracing enabled NVIDIA Quadro RTX4000 graphics. Just like ConceptD laptops, the machine has a very low fan noise (under 40 dB). An attractive wooden panel present at the top of the cabinet gives it a very picturesque look.

As mentioned before, two new monitors were also brought to light by the Taiwanese technology company, which are the ConceptD CM7 and the CP7. The CM7 has a huge screen size of 34 inches, whereas the CP7’s screen measures at 27 inches. The ConceptD CM7 is directed towards users who work in print design and manufacturing, while on the other hand, the CP7 is meant for users who work with digital content. Both CP7 and CM7 support 4K resolution, with the smaller CM7 featuring a 144Hz refresh rate.

Acer hasn’t made an official statement regarding the pricing and availability of the ConceptD series, but considering that the machines are not your average-powered systems, a high price point can be expected when it officially makes its way to the market, expectedly in the latter half of 2019.

  • Apple Announces New iMacs, Including the Awaited 21.5-inch 4K Model

Apple Announces New iMacs, Including the Awaited 21.5-inch 4K Model

Apple wowed us with their event back in September and kept the suspense alive as they remained tight lipped about the iMacs that were not released at the time. Well, the wait is over and they are here!
Apple launched its new Retina 4K display for the 21.5-inch iMac and a 5K display for the 27-inch iMac in California, today.

    apple_imac_screenshot_official_website

The much anticipated display makes photos and videos even more crystal clear than they were in the pervious iMacs. The exterior of the iMacs sport Thunderbolt 2 ports and more storage options that makes the desktop look promising.

In addition to this, Apple also announced a number of wireless accessories like the Magic keyboard 2, Magic Mouse 2 and (obviously) Magic Trackpad 2. These devices, we guess, are magical due to the fact that they have rechargeable batteries and require no aid of disposable batteries, whatsoever.

We saw the introduction of Force Touch technology to the iPhone 6s and Apple has taken that a step forward by introducing the technology to the Magic Trackpad of the desktop.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president, Worldwide marketing said:

“From the first iMac to today, the spirit of iMac has never wavered — deliver the ultimate desktop experience with the latest technologies, gorgeous displays and cutting-edge designs,”

Specs wise, it has a 4096 x 2304 resolution and 9.4 million pixels, which is reportedly 4.5 times more than the standard 21.5-inch iMac display. The 27-inch iMac features a Retina 5K display with a resolution of 14.7 million pixels. 5K and 4K displays feature a wider P3-based colour gamut that provides a 25 percent larger colour space.

    iMac

The 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display now comes with sixth-generation Intel Core processors. The new 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display, on the other hand, features a fifth-generation Intel Core processor and is enhanced by Intel Iris Pro Graphics. The Thunderbolt 2 ports come with 20Gbps data transfer speeds for external drives and high-performance peripherals. The RAM has also been improved across the board from 8GB of 1600MHz LPDDR3 to 8GB of 1867GHz LPDDR3, upgradeable to 16GB.

    Pricing & Availability

Finally talking about the price, the 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display is available at select Apple Authorised Resellers. The 27-inch iMac comes in three models priced at INR 148,900, INR 164,900 and INR 188,900. Additional technical specifications are available online at www.apple.com/in/imac/.

The 21.5-inch iMac is available at select Apple Authorised Resellers. The desktop is also available in three models priced at INR 91,900 and INR 107,900 and with a Retina 4K display starting at INR 123,900. Additional technical specifications are available online at www.apple.com/in/imac/.

Lastly, the Keyboard is available at INR 8,300, while the Mouse 2 will be be priced at INR 6,600 and the Trackpad 2 for INR 11,200.
Admittedly, these prices are sky rocketing and seem really unaffordable but Apple promises a better experience, as is the case with all its products. So it’s up to you to empty your pockets, or not.

  • How and Why You Should Disable Autoplay on Facebook

How and Why You Should Disable Autoplay on Facebook

Facebook’s newest change has been the addition of the autoplay feature in its videos. One day you’re happily scrolling down your homepage, and suddenly you hear a cat meowing in the background. Yes, the video has begun to play simply because you happened to stumble across it on your homepage. No, you did not give the command for it to start meowing.

Other than causing the annoyance of unnecessary cat-noises, this new feature is also a big toll on your internet data, not to mention taking away your right to completely ignore other people’s videos on your homepage.

So here’s a quick look at how you can disable autoplay:

    iPhone:

Go to your settings, scroll down until you find Facebook and then select Settings again. Once there you could choose either ‘Wi-Fi Only’ or switch it off entirely.

    Android:Autoplay on Android

You will find the autoplay settings in your Android app. Choose the Menu button followed by Settings and therein lies your answer.

    Desktop:Autoplay on Desktop

Click the arrow in the upper-right corner of your Facebook profile and choose Settings. There will be Videos on the bottom left of your screen now. Click on it, which will take you to the autoplay settings and from there you can switch it off.

  • Microsoft Skips 9, Unveils Windows 10 Instead

Microsoft Skips 9, Unveils Windows 10 Instead

The next big Windows is finally here. Microsoft did what it does best; arbitrarily name its products. First there were Windows 3.1x, then there was Windows 95 followed by the 98 and then the ME. After these came the modern Windows, namely the XP, Vista, 7 and the 8. Now Microsoft has brought out Windows 10, and it seems it wants to challenge Apple with this one.

This release will bring back some of the traditional characteristics of Windows that were lost in the Windows 8 transition. Microsoft has said that users from any previous Windows OS can easily switch to Windows 10. The bit that will excite a lot of users is the glorious revival of the Start Menu, which was a characteristic feature of Windows until the 8. It will also be one operating system percolating through desktops to tablets to smartphones.

Windows 10 will work across devices.
Windows 10 will work across devices.

The new operating system was unveiled at San Francisco for Business customers. Microsoft will be releasing a technical preview version for selected users. It will be unveiling consumer features early next year. Windows 10 is expected to reach the market by mid-2015. Considering Microsoft nails its flagship operating system in every alternate release, we have a lot of hopes with this one.

  • ‘Ok Google’: Voice Search On Google Chrome For Desktop

‘Ok Google’: Voice Search On Google Chrome For Desktop

Sometime back, Google launched voice support for its browser allowing users to push the microphone icon for voice search. This new way to search was helpful, but as Google is always keen on updates, the company has added a hotword for completely hands-free search.

    How to get started
    1) Download the extension.
    2) Click “agree” to give your permission to use your microphone.
    3) Visit Google.com on Chrome and give it a try. Just say “Ok Google” and then ask your question.

Google has released a free plug in on its browser, which will set a search hotword ‘Ok Google’ which will allow hands-free search on the web. Users simply have to download the plugin and it is ready to use. The extension is ready to download through the Chrome web store, or you can simply click the source below.

It’s not a major update, but atleast Google is trying to innovate and make the user experience better rather than taking out campaigns to blame rivals, if you know what we mean.

Motorola files biggest complaint against Apple for iOS devices

Motorola’s biggest ever complaint against Apple involves 7 technologies that are now owned by Motorola, such as syncing messages between devices and bookmarking media playback on one device to resume on another. Although Apple has been using these technologies since 2005 in podcasts and Movies from iTunes, Motorola’s complaint only targets the newer iPad, iPhone 4s and other devices in the bottom line of Apple’s retail chain.

The complaint may take 6 months to over a year to resolve. By then Apple’s new lineup of technologies should be out. But, the question on everyone’s mind remains whether Apple, with their billions of dollars of corp warfare funds, will let this go easy.
