HTC Officially Unveils the One A9 and it Looks Pretty Neat

HTC has finally lifted the veil off their newest smartphone, the One A9. We had already seen some leaks of the rumored handset that suggested an iPhone 6-like design and now it can be established that the rumours were true. The HTC One A9 is indeed an iPhone 6 look-alike, and that may not be such a bad thing. For one, it comes as a good alternative to the high-end iPhone 6s as HTC CEO Cher Wang said so herself. The other fact, whether you would like to admit or not, is that there are Android fans out there who still admire the iPhone when it comes to design and creativity.

    HTC One A9

The event began with HTC’s Jason Mackenzie taking a dig at Apple’s iPhones having a lot of restrictions with what one can do with a phone, as well as commenting on Android’s bloatware. He then presented a video introducing the One A9. Next up was the designer who spoke about the the inspiration behind the phone, taking cues from the One M7, especially in the antenna front. The phone also “draws on the natural beauty around us by using rich, striking colors and unique finishes – an approach called “metalmorphics.” The dual finish is brushed with hairline detail and bread blasted before the sides are polished. The device is available in Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, Topaz Gold and Deep Garnet.

HTC has worked closely with Google in bringing the best of Android to the smartphone. The HTC One A9 is the first non-Nexus device to come pre-loaded with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. And the company has cut down on preloaded apps, opting for a purer Android experience.

Screen Shot 2015-10-20 at 9.42.59 PM

The official specs of the phone are pretty much the same as what leaks have suggested. The One A9 sports a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with 1080 x 1920 resolution, a fingerprint sensor, 13-megapixel rear camera with low light OIS and also features a Hyperlapse editing tool. and a 4MP Ultrapbixel front and f/2.0 aperture. Nothing in the processor was revealed during the launch so you’ll have to wait a little longer for that but it is likely that the handset will feature a Snapdragon 617 processor.

    HTC One A9 01

On the design front, the HTC One A9 has a curved, aluminium unibody design with oblong SIM and MicroSD tray and plastic antenna lines at the back similar to the iPhone 6. It is also rightly pointed by HTC fans that Apple has previously taken cues from HTC, so this iPhone-like design levels the field. It also makes sense if you think about it. Yes, it is a blatant iPhone rip-off but it’s possibly a part of the company’s strategy. HTC knows that the iPhone 6 is one of the best-selling handsets around, and it just wants to bank on the same magic. But at a $399 price tag, we’re not sure whether consumers would go for the iPhone-ish One A9 or would rather spend a little more and go for the actual iPhone device.

    HTC One A9 02

The HTC One A9 is big on sound as well. The phone boasts of amazing sound quality, with HTC BoomSound integrated into the headset combined with Dolby Audio surround technology.

The One A9 will begin rolling out globally from the first week of November. HTC will offer a special unlocked edition in the U.S, and will ship with less pre-installed software. The price of the handset stands at $399.

So without further ado, here’s the spec table of the HTC One A9. Some specs were not revealed during the launch and will be added once official details are out.

  • Nintendo Looks to Release Five Smartphone Games by 2017

Nintendo Looks to Release Five Smartphone Games by 2017

Nintendo, as we all know, is the world’s largest video game company that has produced several famous titles. Super Mario World, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda were a part of everyone’s childhood if they were born in the 90s. The good news is that the company is back, and will soon be releasing five smartphone games by March 2017.

On March, Nintendo joined hands with DeNA, a Japanese company that makes free games for mobile phones. The two companies intend to make new gaming applications featuring Nintendo IP, which will be developed specifically for smartphones. Nintendo and DeNA also agreed to develop cross-platform service that will run on smartphones, tablets, PCs and Nintendo’s own devices. Satoru Iwata said that a new line of games would be developed for the smartphones instead of porting existing titles.
Regarding the number of the titles, you may want to know that we will release approximately five titles by the end of the next fiscal year, which is the end of March 2017. You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases thoroughly, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business.
Nintendo will continue to make new games in future, and is working on a new console with codename ‘NX’. Iwata stated that the company is eyeing on smartphone gaming to generate a good amount of revenue. Seems like Nintendo will bring down the rain with these five new releases.

Q: LG G2 is a device made after learning from you. If there is one quality in you, that you would like the LG G2 to learn, what would it be?

Answer: I would like the LG G2 to learn everything about me, my irregular wake up time included. I would fall in love with the Lg G2 if it could learn and tell me everytime I get lost on my way and then guide me back on track. If it could sense that I am in a restaurant and tell me to click the dessert and instagram it before I gulp it all in. If the G2 could learn when I’am sitting idle and update me with the latest news as well as the whereabouts of my dear ones. Basically, if the LG G2 could learn and adapt to my irregular and sporadic self, the LG G2 would be my closest friend.

  • HTC’s M7 Flagship Android Phone Rumoured For Early 2013

HTC’s M7 Flagship Android Phone Rumoured For Early 2013

    htc

HTC is prepping a new flagship Android phone for launch, new reports have suggested, with a rumoured HTC M7 release date pegged for early 2013.

According to Focus Taiwan, HTC plans to stage a huge comeback in 2013, focusing on a few core products. This time it intends to actually sell them, ordering up to five million M7 devices from its manufacturing partners.

Such a device would have to be plenty powerful and plenty beautiful, right? The M7 is expected to feature a 5-inch 1080p Super LCD 3 screen, a 1.5Ghz quad-core APQ8064 SoC, 2GB RAM and 13MP camera, along with a unibody aluminum shell.

2012 wasn’t the best year for HTC, in the first three quarters the company failed to impress on the smartphone market and the financial results didn’t look to well for it.

HTC’s revenue for November increased over previous months, to $732 million USD, but is still down 31% over the same time last year. Products like the One X+, Windows Phone 8X and Droid DNA have helped bring the company back into the spotlight, but the brand has lost much of its recognition in recent months as Samsung continues to dominate the Android ecosystem.

  • Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini Launching On November 8

Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini Launching On November 8

    galaxy

Samsung’s hotly awaited new phone will launch on 8 November in the UK, the company has announced.

The compact version of the world’s best-selling Android phone, the Galaxy SIII, will be in shops a week today, and come with free games The Sims 3 and Bejewelled 2.

The Mini features a 4″ screen compared to the regular SIII’s 4.8” version. It also offers a dual core processor rather than the quad core in the main model.

Aimed at a more mid-range market, the device is expected to capitalise on Christmas upgrades, as well as appeal to those who find the larger screens of top Android phones too cumbersome.

Both the SIII and the SIII Mini have now been upgraded to the latest version of Android Jelly Bean (version 4.1), and changes to Gmail the search system Google Now announced earlier this week in version 4.2 can also be downloaded separately.

No news on the pricing yet though, but we expect it to be around the Rs 20,000/- mark.

  • Sony Xperia J previewed, official unveiling to come soon

Sony Xperia J previewed, official unveiling to come soon

The upcoming Sony Xperia J was given the hands-on treatment for an extensive preview ahead its supposed announcement later this month.

The Xperia J is one more model in Sony’s onslaught of new devices that it brought forth until now and will continue to until the end of this year. The Xperia J is a lower-midrange offering, with a 4-inch 480×854 touchscreen, 1 GHz single-core processor.

The battery is said to be a 1700mAh unit, which should provide a decent level of battery life given the reduced screen size and the same entry-level processor as the Xperia Tipo. RAM is set at 512MB. There is also a microSD card slot hiding away under the battery on the Xperia J.

The rear camera is a 5MP shooter with an LED flash, but apparently only shoots video at a pretty dreary 640×480. There is also a front facing camera, but nothing is said of it’s specs. Given the rear camera, we’re not expecting a lot from it.

The Xperia J is at least running Android 4.0 out of the box.
