• Google Nexus 4 Gets Android 4.2.2 in Brazil and Malaysia

Google Nexus 4 Gets Android 4.2.2 in Brazil and Malaysia

    nexus 4

While most of the world is seeing Android 4.2.1 as the latest version of Jelly Bean, it looks like Google has quietly begun rolling out something a bit newer. According to new reports, Google has begun rolling out Android 4.2.2 in select countries. So far the reports are pinpointing just two countries — Brazil and Malaysia.

According to a recent report, LG Mobile’s production facility situated in Taubaté, Brazil has already started churning out Nexus 4 smartphones today in hopes of catching up with the overwhelming demands, an interesting twist to this story is that at least a thousand of these quad-core packing monsters have — purportedly — been loaded with Google’s latest version of the Android Jelly Bean platform so don’t be surprised if the Nexus 4 you have ordered via the Play Store portal  will come running the Android 4.2.2 operating system.

Also, a new leak reveals the LG Nexus 4 in Malaysia running the new, unannounced software from Google.

True or not, we suggest taking this news with a grain of salt since it’s still unknown if the leaked image is legitimate — but, like we’ve previously mentioned, the fact that Google has stopped letting users download the Android 4.1.2 may give us a vague  clue as to what Google is really hiding up its sleeves and the Android 4.2.2 may just be the answer we’ve been waiting for.

  • Android 4.1.2 rolling out to Nexus 7 with landscape mode

Android 4.1.2 rolling out to Nexus 7 with landscape mode

Google announced today that it is rolling out a minor update to Jelly Bean in the form of Android 4.1.2. This minor bump brings performance and stability improvements to the Android Open Source Project, on which many custom ROMs are based, as well as specific improvements to devices like the Nexus 7.

The software update also adds a key feature to devices running the Jelly Bean software: home screen rotation support. Prior to this update, all Android 4.1 devices use portrait mode for the home screens, even when the smartphone or tablet is in landscape mode, making for a disjointed experience.

In fact, upon the announcement it was discovered that the update is already being pushed to Nexus 7 devices all over the world, with the added bonus of bringing landscape support to the stock launcher.

According to Google’s resident AOSP guru, Jean-Baptiste Queru, the update is especially important for the Nexus 7 as it corresponds with a slight hardware change.
We’re releasing Android 4.1.2 to AOSP today, which is a minor update on top of 4.1.1.
As a note to maintainers of community builds running on Nexus 7: please update to 4.1.2 at the first opportunity. Future variants of  the grouper hardware will have a minor change in one of the components  (the power management chip) that will not be compatible with 4.1.1.

The build number is JZO54K, and the tag is android-4.1.2_r1.

    Jean-Baptiste M. “JBQ” Queru
Technical Lead, Android Open Source Project, Google

It’s expected that Android 4.1.2 will roll out to other Nexus devices, including Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola Xoom, over the next few weeks.

  • LG Optimus G Nexus Hands-On Report Surfaces Online!

LG Optimus G Nexus Hands-On Report Surfaces Online!

We are getting further into October and in the last couple of days rumours surrounding the Google Nexus program have been heating up. Only recently there was no leaked news about any upcoming Nexus device, but in the last couple of days things are changing. now, a LG Optimus G Nexus hands on report has surfaced online.

Android and Me has been given access to the first LG Optimus G Nexus hands on, albeit it can’t provide any images or videos of the device. Apparently the handset has been tested by a source that has access to it, without being a Google employee. Here’s what he told the publication :
“I can confirm the next nexus is LG Optimus based. The phone looks surprisingly like the Galaxy Nexus and does not have sharp corners like the LG Optimus we already know. It has a silver’ring like the iPhone 3G around the outer edge of the screen which seemed to be similar to the Galaxy Nexus in size but was much better in brightness.

I couldn’t have said if it was larger in the few minutes that I had the phone. Also, it has Nexus written on the back like the Nexus 7 except there is a color element to it. The ‘X’ is in four colors. There was also the LG logo on the back.

Android 4.2 in its current state looked exactly like the 4.1.1 we love. There were no tabs on that build version for home-screens as you suggested from your other tipster. What I was amazed by is how fluid everything seemed to be from exiting apps, switching, etc. It seems like they’ve increased the number of transitions and their types. It still had the hodge-podge mess of multiple communication tools: Messenger, GTalk, Voice and SMS.”
If the information described above is correct, it’s describing a very iterative Nexus, one with a 8MP camera (not the 13MP module found in the Optimus G), running a new-but-familiar version of Android.

    This is getting interesting!
