Micromax SuperFone A73 Buzz Review

Micromax A73 buzz review 12

Micromax has been keen to deliver dual-sim Android based devices to the market at the speed of lightning. The A73 Superfone buzz comes in only a couple of months after the popular A75 Superfone. Lets look at how it fares.

Build Quality and Design

The phone is well built and does not squeak or rattle. The design of the phone is reminiscent of a metal constructed device, but is actually purely plastic. The physical buttons are nice and tactile and deliver great performance. The front bezel gives the device a very nice look, adding more value than the phone itself.

The design of the phone is pure candy bar, slightly thicker than normal, the device fits comfortably in the hand and is also easy to operate with one hand. The soft touch back panel adds to the comfort of the user

Hardware

The phone features the same 650 MHz processor you saw in the A75, so don’t expect any better performance. The phone also has a 2MP main camera and a VGA front camera capable of video calls over 3G.

The front of the device has a 3.5 inch 26×480 px display, and on the inside you will find a 1300 mAh battery. The device has 50MB of onboard storage with 32GB expandability via microSD, apart from that there is 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM.

Display, Camera and Multimedia

The screen of the A73 is no retina display, but has a good color depth, and is largely vivid. Browsing the web can be somewhat of a problem considering that text is not easily readable on the screen. The display looks pixelated is is possibly the main down points of the phone.

The speakers are loud but not accurate, delivering volume without quality. Streaming videos from the internet play properly on the device and it can handle mostly all formats you can transfer to the 32 GB (not included) microSD card.

The camera is a 2 MP fixed focus camera and is only capable of basic shooting, don’t expect fireworks from the device. Image quality is decent, but video is poor and pixellated.

Due to processor and graphics limitations, high end games will either not install or not run properly on this device. Although most popular games and apps like Angry Birds, TempleRun and Instagram will work seamlessly.

Phone Calls and Messaging

The device is capable of handling two sim cards simultaneously, including one 3G sim and one 2g  sim. The only problem with that is, the fact that you have only one sim card slot that is 3G compatible, unlike in the case of the Galaxy Y duos, where you can select which sim is 3G.

Network quality is decent and the 3G performance is well over expected. In our phone call testing we faced a total of 2 dropped calls in a 1.5 hour test. In our travel test however we faced several dropped calls, especially when crossing network bridges.

Messaging is fast and easy on the responsive touchscreen, you can use the included keyboard, or choose to install a new one from the Google Play Store. Either way messaging and mailing is fast and efficient once you grab the hang of the device.

Battery Life:

  • Talk Time 3G network(data off): 3 Hours
  • Talk Time 2g (data off) : 6 hours
  • Internet : N/A
  • Music : 8 Hours
  • Video : 3 hours

  • Talk Time 3G network(data on): 2.5 Hours
  • Talk Time 2g (data on) : 5 hours
  • Internet : 3.5 Hours
  • Music : 6.5 Hours
  • Video : 2 hours

  • Talk Time 3G network(data off): 3 Hours
  • Talk Time 2g (data off) : 6 hours
  • Internet : 3 Hours
  • Music : 7 Hours
  • Video : 3 hours

Conclusion:

The device is a good mix of price and value for money features, the touchscreen is good but the display leaves a lot to be desired. Dual sim is good but with single non switchable 3G. The phone is a good option for those who have two numbers, but would prefer to carry a single phone for them. The features do not set it in any performance category, but actually giving you the option of a smart dual sim phone. Standard Android functionality and apps like Facebook, twitter and google + will help you stay connected, whereas a fast browser and seamless video streaming along with a very capable FM radio and tons of internet radio apps will keep you entertained.

The new Google play store offers thousands of apps which are mostly compatible and work flawlessly on the A73 Superfone Buzz.
