Samsung has finally let out their most awaited update for the Samsung Galaxy 3. Android 2.2 aka Froyo is now available for all those with samsung Galaxy 3s in India and Europe.

To Update your Device

Make sure your device is fully charged!

BE sure to backup all your data!

 

Step one

Download the latest version of Kies

Step two

Fully charge your Galaxy 3

Step three

Connect via the USB cable to your computer

Step four

Fire up kies and let it search for update

if it does not give you an update, check for update manually by clicking the update button in the bottom row.

Step Five

Follow the steps on the screen and your device will begin the new update.

Few features that are in the 2.2 update -

  • A very colorful menu interface
  • The ability to Install apps to the SD CARD
  • Apart from general Performance boost in processor, better battery and ram management.
  • The 2.2 update also adds a lot of bug fixes and tweaks.

    after the update i’ve been havin issues with my Swype. and it’s happening quite regularly. also the Gallery hangs a lot after the update. i don’t see much improvement in processor speed as claimed. that’s it abt the froyo update in galaxy 3 (apollo). Kinda regretting buying this phone actually. :(

    Techinicaly it’s possible 2 run Gingerbread on galaxy 3 but donno whether samsung is goin to release an Update of gingerbread on G3 …But u can go with Custom rom cyanogenmod it’s still alpha version released need 2 wait for some more time !

    Ya even i used to get this… it says it needs more than 4GB on your system harddisk where your connecting your phone for the update.. i had less that 4 GB freed some space then it worked.. try it out..

    I had the same problem and i crashed the existing os. I went to Samsung service center and got it done.

    I  installed the latest kies. It is showing as there is an update.  It
    is downloading the software from net.. and then wen updating the version
    in phone it gets in to  an error and exits. then phone remains with the
    old froyo update.

    I tried serveral times in my phone and in my friend phone..

    how to fix this?

    updated my phone…… but there r some problems…. swype not working… size of the app is showing much less than the actual size… shows my phone is in roaming even when it hasn’t moved an inch…

    mobile becomes silent… press and hold the volume down button for 2-3 seconds… and for swipe, update’s gonna come in a month’s time

    The same thing happened for me too… But after I kept closing and opening the Kies application and plugging and unplugging the USB, it was able to detect the phone and it worked…

    hi ther…. im facing a problem… no clue if its the cell phone or my laptop or Kies… I downloaded and installed the latest version of Kies… When I launch the application a error message pops-up stating -  KiesPDLR has stopped working… OK fine… I clicked on Cancel and Kies application opened… O sorry, before opening Kies, I connected my Galaxy 3 and then opened the Kies application… :-) Kies was able to detect my Galaxy 3 and a message pops-up stating – A new firmware version is available. Updating may improve the performance of GT-I5801. Do u want to upgrade? (It also says about current and latest firmware version)… I clicked on Update and then a new window pops-up about Caution… I accepted it and clicked on upgrade… Then this annoying message comes up stating that firmware cannot be upgraded… Why??? I had to tell everything in detail because there is not one site that talks about a solution… Pls help… being trying to upgrade to froyo 2.2 for a long time now… Hoping to hear frm u as early as possible… Thanx… Ryan

     tried to upgrade my samusng galaxy 3 i5801 but couldn’t make.
    the problem i faced was during upgrade process using kies i downloaded the firmware and got the downloading screen on my phone also but something went wrong which stopped the upgrade process saying cannot upgrade. 

    Can anyone provide me any info to over the the same prob?

    And luckily i found my phone was in the earlier position with 2.1 Eclair and functional

    u will get a popup saying input method tap here
    Another popup will appear and select between samsung keypad and Swype

    Hey guys, I managed to update to 2.2. The same way it was mentioned in the cracked version. You need Odin downloader, goto http://www.samfirmware.com and download I5801DDJP2 firmware and You can install it. I also got my phone original model back I5801 which earlier after hacking the phone was showing as I5800. Hope this helps you all. Cheers!!!

    Same here buddy.. lemme know if u find a resolution. I tried the unofficial to upgrade it was causing issues to my phone so rolled it back to original firmware. Now can’t upgrade it officially!!!

    I’ve updated my Galaxy5801 thru’ kies update. Everything looks good, but two of the froyo features are NOT working in galaxy 5801 (2.2) update,
    1. Live wallpaper not working
    2. Adobe flash player wont work in galaxy 5801, bcoz of ArmV6 processor.

    Additionally swype keypad also NOT working.

    Will Samsung give any other patch to fix LIVE Wall paper and swype keypad?

    Not sure whether they fixed any bugs prevalent in Eclair; but they introduced many more bugs in this Froyo upgrade!!! Swype gone, some camera issues, mob not becoming silent on pressing vol down key and the list just goes on!!!

    i have problems while updating to 2.2… after connecting to Kies 2.0 it asked me for firmware upgrade… but it doesnt allow to proceed due to less space in C:, During the Clean up Process ,I have disconnected my mobile form pc.. after that wen i tried it says My firmware is upgraded fully.. but in my mobile still the same 2.1 exists!! pls help me… i have been longing for froyo update!!!!
