I upgraded my Galaxy3 to Froyo (2.2) using Kies, after the upgrade the GPS doesn’t seem to be working.. when I launch the ‘Navigation’ app, it just says ‘waiting for location’ and later I get a message “Your location is temporarily unavailable”. Prior to the upgrade, it was working without any issues. Are there any known issues in the Froyo upgrade?

    Thanks

    Hi,
Thanks for the Froyo for my Galaxy 3, I have installed it as per your instruction and its working fine and havent lost the license for the thinkfree also which was bundled alongwith.
There are some problems as well:
#1. I am not able to download any application from the Android Market, it doesn’t display any error and the data exchange gets stopped,
#2. Not able to work my GPS,Maps.
Will try for some days if I get any solution else will revert back to 2.1 Eclaire.
If u have any solution do post it asap so that i can try.
    Anyway thanks for your efforts.

  • Amitprsingh

    Great tutorial!!!
However, when I tried it, my I5800 FROZE during final boot. I was left with a brick for sometime.

So after much researching I tried another 2.2. firmware update at:
    http://forum.samdroid.net/f60/samsung-i5800s-firmware-latest-froyo-xxjpb-3412/

Note: Get the “I5800XXJPB” instead if you have the same prob as me.

And folks REMEMBER to REMOVE your SIM card and probably your SD Media Card. It should have been mentioned in this tut for safety.

ps. who cares about warranty voids? At least you get a faster phone at NO cost!

Hello, Bharat did u notice that messaging is forced to close, anything to fix that ????

  • Peter

Nice ! Odin didn’t “see” my phone. The download startup option did the trick. Thnx so much !

    Peter.

  • Jeet

    @bharat nagpal:
    1. BTW there is a more stable release of the firmware you have mentioned here.
    the I5800XXJPB–here–http://www.multiupload.com/IVMSZNKNLT–
    2. the update WILL VOID WARRANTY.
because ur bootimage will change permanently to I5800 instead of the original I5801!!!!
so if ur worried…pls wait for samsung (unlikely :( ) or until ur warranty is out

  • Shravan2k2

    done with sucess……

  • Onlinesharif

Thanks a lot. working perfectly on my phone . the only thing is the I5800 logo instead of I5801, but who cares . BTW can i revert back to 2.1 and upgrade to 2.2 when samsung launches the 2.2 upgrade officialy.thanks again for the wonderful guide.thanks

hey i am from india. i have 5801 can i update to froyo 2.2? its possible??

  • PS

Can we go back & install 2.1 after installed 2.2, if yes then how ?

  • Srejon

in this version the device run ‘Live Wallpaper’ ??

  • ajg455

Thanks for the clear instructions – it worked fine. The only (small) problem is that the phone has got a permanent notification that ‘all video calls have been diverted’! The i5801 doesn’t do video calls, and I can’t find a way of getting rid of this notification. Any ideas?

  • Tijsvc

Works, it just took a while(10 minutes) to boot the first time after installation.
    THANKS!

  • Navendugoyal19

    hw about rooting

  • Webkaran

while rooting 2.2 after running ODIN..it stucks on loading showing samsung only..what to do?

  • Manubadboy

Its showing as I5800 instead of I5801 because the phone was launched only in Asia with I5801 boot file..All over the world its I5800 and the developers at Samfirmwares use the firmwares that guys at Samsung use and i.e. the firmwares for US/ Europe..If u want to get ur I5801 logo back then flash the phone with froyo update without selecting the boot file.. :-)

  • Piseakshay7

Galaxy 3 is much more better than galaxy5. but the price is also more by about 2k-2.5k.

  • Rajivss

HI guys……….Just wondering if the update will affect the custom samsung software/apps in the phone.
And i am wondering if the update for the galaxy 5 has pinch to zoom…..

  • manubadboy

yes it works my Galaxy 3 Apollo is Android v2.2 Froyo updated,,Just follow the guidelines completely and you will be able to update it properly.. :)

  • manubadboy

Well Harsha always always remember to select the one package, protect ops and auto reboot options in ODIN.And always do a factory reset before and after the flashing..Always remember to keep ur battery to the max before flashing..

If you are not able to go beyond the samsung logo don’t panic..just reflash with the same firmware file and if you are still not able to go beyond the flashing logo screen..then flash with DDJG6 firmware and then reflash with JPA firmware which is also android 2.2 froyo version…after flashing give it sometime..the phone take sometime to go beyond the samsung logo.. :)

  • Jim Qode

Just updated. I confirm that flash works all right.

  • Srejon

    1) Dose it void warranty ?
    2) Which mobile is better between Galaxy 5 or Galaxy 3 ?
    3) If possible then upload a video of this possessing..

  • http://www.iGyaan.in Bharat Nagpal

visit the galaxy 5 update page

  • Karthik

hi sir,is this update is possible for samsung galaxy 5…..?

  • Xadityax

Amazing worked…but my phone is showing its model as gt i5800 instead of i5801

  • http://iGyaan.in iGyaan

Glad it worked :D model number will not matter with usage :)

  • Piseakshay7

it really worked. but the problem is my model no has changed to Samsung GT-I5800 from Samsung GT-I5801. but its working as the hardware configuration is same in both model.

  • http://www.iGyaan.in Bharat Nagpal

put it back in download mode and put back the original 2.1 image on your device.

  • Harsha1485

Same here…Does not go beyond samsung logo… Wat to do?
